Equine Medications Resources

I've posted about the equine drug rules before, but mostly about what is permitted and what is not permitted. To expand, I will post a few resources about withdrawal/detection times to help plan showing when certain drugs must be used. Of course, it is best to consult with your veterinarian whenever you use a medication and never trust the detection times completely, but these provide helpful general guidelines.

• The FEI list of detection times - This is a fairly limited list of some of the more commonly used drugs, but is very specific in terms of dosage and method of administration.
• The Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency Schedule of Drugs - This is an excellent resource with many medications represented. Graphs are shown for each method of administration for each drug to demonstrate exactly how the drug is eliminated from the system.
• The Equine Medication Control Guide from Equine Canada - This is a booklet summarizing the EC drug rules along with the detection times of some of the more commonly used medications.
• Equine Canada's Equine Medication Control section - various forms, guidelines and summaries from EC.
• 2012 USEF Equine Drugs and Medications Guidelines - Another summarizing booklet, but the list of detection times in this one includes the recommended dosages and latest administration times before competition for a select few drugs.
